Social 10 Course Description
The Alberta Social Studies curriculum focuses on shaping students into active, engaged, critically and creatively thinking citizens. Students will actively participate in identity building activities that emphasize material from multiple perspectives that contributes to the attitudes, knowledge, and skills of each student. As well students will be exposed to current societal issues. The Social 10-1/2 curriculum focuses on the extent to which we should embrace globalization. Students will attempt to understand, assess and respond to the complex notion(s) of globalization.
Students will explore four issues in order to form an informed position concerning the degree to which we should embrace globalization.
1. To what extent should globalization shape identity?
2. To what extent should contemporary society respond to the legacies of historical globalization?
3. To what extent does globalization contribute to sustainable prosperity for all people?
4. To what extent should I, as a citizen, respond to globalization?

- Students will assess the impacts of historical globalization on Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
3. To what extent does globalization contribute to sustainable prosperity for all people?
- Students will assess economic, environmental and other contemporary impacts of globalization.
4. To what extent should I, as a citizen, respond to globalization?
- Students will assess their roles and responsibilities in a globalizing world.
